Tulip Siddiq Denies Allegations, Claims No Communication from Bangladesh AuthoritiesLondon

16 June 2025 — British MP Tulip Siddiq has publicly refuted corruption allegations brought against her by Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), stating that neither she nor her legal representatives have received any formal communication from Bangladeshi authorities. In a statement posted on social media platform X, Siddiq said,> “There has still been no communication with me or my lawyers from the Bangladeshi authorities regarding these false allegations.”This marks Siddiq’s latest response following an arrest warrant issued by the ACC in April 2025. The commission accuses her of illegally acquiring a 7,200-square-foot plot in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone through political influence.Tulip Siddiq, a Member of Parliament from the UK’s Labour Party and granddaughter of Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, resigned from her role as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in January 2025 after reports surfaced linking her to questionable property deals in Bangladesh. Although the UK’s independent ethics adviser found no evidence of misconduct, Siddiq stepped down, citing the need to avoid political distraction.Since then, she has consistently denied the accusations, describing them as politically motivated and baseless. Siddiq has also emphasized that the lack of direct contact from Bangladeshi legal authorities undermines the legitimacy of the charges.Legal experts in the UK have noted that the absence of an extradition treaty between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom makes the enforcement of the warrant largely symbolic at this stage.Meanwhile, the case has sparked political controversy both in Dhaka and London. Some analysts view the charges as an attempt to politically pressure the Siddiq family amid Bangladesh’s shifting political landscape.Summary:No official communication received by Siddiq or her legal team from Bangladeshi authorities.Arrest warrant issued in April over alleged illegal land allotment.Siddiq maintains innocence, calling the charges politically driven. No UK legal action pending; extradition remains unlikely. As this situation unfolds, Siddiq remains active in UK politics while continuing to challenge the legitimacy of the claims brought against her.
