Netanyahu Admits Use of Gangsters to Suppress Palestinians
The Voice News: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has admitted that his government is using local gangsters and armed groups—including some linked to ISIS—to suppress Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In a video statement released on Thursday (June 5), Netanyahu said that, on the advice of security officials, Israel has activated certain local tribes and families inside Gaza to fight against Hamas. However, he did not acknowledge that many of these groups are in fact criminal gangs involved in looting humanitarian aid trucks.
Separate reports by Israeli media outlets Haaretz and Times of Israel revealed that among these groups is an armed faction with close ties to the Islamic State (ISIS), which is allegedly receiving direct weapons support from Israel. The faction is reportedly led by Yasser Abu Shabab, a member of a powerful tribe in southern Gaza.
According to military sources cited by Times of Israel, Israel has supplied this gang with weapons, including arms previously seized from Hamas. The group is currently active in the Rafah region, under Israeli military control.
In response, Hamas recently released a video showing its fighters attacking these gang members. The revelation has sparked widespread criticism of Netanyahu’s administration.
Avigdor Lieberman, former Israeli Defense Minister and opposition leader, stated, “Just as Israel once funded Hamas to counter the PLO, now Netanyahu’s government is creating another armed group to fight Hamas.”
On the same day Netanyahu made his statement, Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed at least 70 more Palestinians. Human rights organizations warn that this new strategy will escalate the conflict rather than bring peace.
Analysts suggest that Israel’s actions could incite civil war within Palestinian society and further complicate the already dire humanitarian crisis.
