Former U.S. State Department Spokesperson’s Comment

No Doubt Israel Committed War Crimes in Gaza

The Voice News: Former U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has stated unequivocally that Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza. In a podcast interview with Sky News, he said, “I don’t believe it’s genocide, but there’s no doubt in my mind that Israel has committed war crimes.”

The interview, published on Monday (June 2) as part of the Trump 100 podcast series, revealed internal disagreements within the Biden administration and tensions surrounding U.S. policy on Gaza.

Miller served as the State Department spokesperson from 2023 until the end of President Biden’s term. His primary responsibility was to communicate the U.S. stance on various international issues, including Gaza and Ukraine, to the media.

When asked why he didn’t make such a statement publicly while in office, Miller responded, “When you’re a government spokesperson, you don’t have the luxury of expressing personal opinions. You represent the official position of the administration. At that time, the U.S. government had not concluded that Israel had committed war crimes. It still hasn’t.”

Explaining what constitutes a war crime, Miller said, “If a state deliberately violates the laws of war or acts with such recklessness that it results in violations of those laws, it can be considered a war crime.”
He added, “I believe in certain specific incidents, war crimes clearly took place, committed by members of the Israeli military forces.”

Miller also addressed the Biden administration’s policy on Gaza. According to him, there were various “minor and major” internal disagreements over the U.S. strategic position regarding Israel.

In response to a question about the relationship between then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President Biden, Miller clearly indicated that there were tensions between the two concerning Gaza and Ukraine. He suggested that Blinken was reportedly frustrated with Biden’s approach to both issues.
