Trump Withdraws Nomination of Elon Musk’s Close Friend for NASA Administrator Post

The Voice News: White House has unexpectedly withdrawn the nomination of Jared Isaacman, a close associate of Tesla owner Elon Musk, for the position of NASA Administrator. The decision was announced on Saturday, May 31, according to British news agency Reuters.

U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his privately owned social media platform, Truth Social:
“After reviewing prior attachments, I have decided to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman as NASA Administrator. I will soon announce a new nominee who will prioritize America’s interests in space.”

No hints have been provided regarding who might be selected as an alternative candidate.

The withdrawal of Isaacman’s nomination has surprised many in the space industry. He was scheduled to attend a highly anticipated Senate confirmation hearing next week.

Neither Trump nor the White House has offered any explanation for this sudden decision.

Following the announcement, Isaacman responded on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Though we may not fully understand the current turbulence, I know there are many patriotic and capable individuals suited for this role. When I was nominated, I clearly saw that. I’m grateful to President Trump, the Senate, and all who supported me during this journey.”

The withdrawal comes just a day after Elon Musk distanced himself from the Trump administration. Isaacman, a close ally of Musk, had recently been appointed as a special officer in the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE) under Trump’s renewed leadership, aimed at reducing government spending. Reports indicate that within his four-month administrative tenure, he clashed with several high-ranking officials.

Musk has not responded to media requests for comment regarding the withdrawal. However, a staff member familiar with the matter stated that Musk was clearly disappointed by the decision.

After the news broke, Musk posted on X:
“It’s rare to find someone as generous and competent as Jared Isaacman.”
