Islami Chhatra Shibir Spreading Violence and Radicalism in Bangladesh Campuses, Says Student Parliament

Dhaka, Bangladesh –
The Bangladesh Democratic Student Parliament (Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sansad) has raised serious allegations against Islami Chhatra Shibir, accusing the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami of operating covert political networks, inciting violence, and engaging in extremist activities across various educational institutions in the country.

In a statement released on Friday, the student group claimed that Shibir’s actions pose a direct threat to the future of student politics in Bangladesh. “They are spreading violence and fear in campuses, undermining the academic environment and targeting progressive student voices,” said a spokesperson of the Democratic Student Parliament.

The group further alleged that Islami Chhatra Shibir maintains ideological and operational links with internationally designated terrorist organizations, including al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Lashkar-e-Taiba. “Shibir is not just a student organization — it is the ideological bridge for extremist forces that have destabilized nations globally. Today, they are threatening the peace and security of Bangladesh,” the statement read.

These claims come amid rising tensions on university campuses, where reports of intimidation, recruitment attempts, and radicalization efforts have emerged over recent months.

Calls are growing for the government and law enforcement agencies to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into Shibir’s activities. Civil society organizations and student rights groups have urged authorities to safeguard campuses from extremism and ensure that education institutions remain spaces for learning, debate, and peace — not violence and radicalization.
