Trump’s Emergency Tariff Strategy Faces Legal Setbacks, But White House Remains Defiant

The Voice News: President Donald Trump’s plan to use emergency powers to impose high tariffs—aimed at reshaping global trade, generating substantial tax revenue, and supporting U.S. manufacturers—has suffered major legal blows. Two court rulings have challenged the legality of this approach, dealing a significant setback to the administration’s trade war strategy.

However, on Thursday, the White House scored a temporary victory when a federal appeals court paused one of the rulings, allowing the government to continue collecting the disputed tariffs for now. Officials remain optimistic about their chances on appeal and are also exploring alternative legal tools to enforce the policy.

The move has sparked heavy criticism from the public, with many arguing that the use of emergency powers in this context is unconstitutional and lacks a legitimate emergency justification. Critics also emphasize that the power to impose tariffs lies with Congress, not the President.
