BCB President Faruque Ahmed Removed in No-Confidence Vote

The Voice News :Faruque Ahmed has been ousted from his role as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) representative on the National Sports Council following a no-confidence motion signed by eight BCB directors.

The Ministry of Sports confirmed the decision on Thursday night, citing both the no-confidence letter and a fact-finding report related to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“Based on the no-confidence letter from eight BCB directors and the findings of the BPL investigation, Faruque Ahmed’s nomination as the National Sports Council representative has been canceled,” the statement read.

The directors behind the motion—Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Mahbubul Anam, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Fahim Sinha, Salahuddin Chowdhury, Iftikhar Rahman, Saifur Alam Swapan Chowdhury, and Manjur Alam—accused Faruque of violating the BCB constitution and ruling in an autocratic manner.

They pointed to Clause 14-B of the BCB constitution, which mandates board approval before hiring or firing coaches. Faruque allegedly dismissed coach Chandika Hathurusingha in October without board consent. Additionally, he approved the participation of Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings in the 2024–25 BPL season without proper scrutiny.

Only one board director, former national captain Akram Khan, did not support the motion apart from Faruque himself.

In response, Faruque indicated he may pursue legal action. He claimed the BCB constitution has no provision for a no-confidence vote, suggesting the motion lacks legal validity.

“I will consult my lawyer. The constitution doesn’t mention any no-confidence procedure, so I believe the letter holds no ground,” Faruque said.
