How Trump Plans to Avoid a Third Impeachment

The Voice News: Donald Trump is working aggressively to keep Republican control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections—an effort largely driven by his fear of facing another impeachment inquiry, Axios reported Tuesday.

There’s no shortage of possible triggers for impeachment. Trump has openly benefited from his presidency, helping allies profit through market manipulation and turning administration officials into de facto salespeople. He’s also allegedly accepted a major gift from a foreign government, raising constitutional concerns.

“He knows the stakes,” said Matt Gorman, a former House GOP campaign official. “With Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker, investigations and impeachment are real threats.”

To avoid that, Trump has a five-step plan:

  1. Keep GOP Lawmakers in Place: Trump is discouraging Republican lawmakers from retiring or running for other offices, as open seats risk party losses and increased campaign costs. He recently endorsed Rep. Mike Lawler to seek re-election in New York, warning him against focusing on state-level issues like SALT deductions.
  2. Stop Primary Challenges Early: Trump is using early endorsements to protect vulnerable Republicans from primary challengers. Over the weekend, he backed Reps. Andrew Garbarino (NY) and Troy Downing (MT), hoping to prevent internal party splits.
  3. Fundraise Big: Trump remains the GOP’s most effective fundraiser. He recently helped raise over $35 million for the National Republican Congressional Committee and plans to hold more high-dollar events before the election.
  4. Spend Strategically: Trump’s political network already has $500,000 earmarked for future races and is funding a massive ad campaign promoting his $5.3 trillion tax plan.
  5. Recruit Aggressively: Trump plans to personally help recruit candidates in key swing districts, acting as a “closer” to ensure strong GOP contenders.

With some lawmakers already defecting—such as Michigan’s John James and Kentucky’s Andy Barr—Trump’s efforts to solidify Republican control could be critical to his political survival.
