Bangladesh Army Clarifies Stance on Government Relations, Corridor, and Border Issues

The Voice News:At a press conference held by the Bangladesh Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Md. Nazim-ud-Doula, Director of Military Operations, stated that there is no disagreement or division between the army and the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Key Highlights from the Press Conference:

On Relationship with the Government: Brigadier General Nazim-ud-Doula dismissed media reports suggesting significant differences between the army and the government. He said, “The army and the government are working in close coordination. There’s no reason to interpret the relationship otherwise.” He stressed that the army is operating under government directives and remains committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty.

On Push-Ins Along the Border: Regarding recent push-in incidents at the Bangladesh-India border, the General said, “Such actions are unacceptable. The BGB is actively handling the situation, and if necessary, the army will intervene upon government orders.”

On Lalmonirhat Airport and China’s Involvement: Responding to questions about possible Chinese use of Lalmonirhat Airport, he clarified, “There is no confirmed information about China using the airport. The airport is being reactivated due to necessity, and any decision will be taken by the government with national security in mind.”

On the Situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts: When asked about armed groups threatening border security, he asserted, “We have not compromised the border. We will defend our land at any cost.”

On the Arakan Army Presence: He acknowledged the complex situation along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border due to the Arakan Army’s advances in Rakhine State. However, he clarified that while there may be armed movement, there is no direct engagement between the army and the Arakan Army, and the BGB is monitoring the situation.

On the Humanitarian Corridor Issue: Colonel Md. Shafiqul Islam, who read the army’s official statement earlier, emphasized that the humanitarian corridor topic is sensitive and the army will not engage in any activity that may compromise national security. He also mentioned that discussions about such matters must come through a legitimate government and follow due process.

On Army’s Role in Elections: Colonel Shafiqul made it clear that the army has no intention of assuming power and that it is not involved in any political discussions regarding elections.

On KNF (Kuki-Chin National Front): Brigadier General Nazim-ud-Doula confirmed that recent media reports showing images of KNF-made uniforms are credible. He stated that the rise of such armed groups is concerning, and operations against them are ongoing.

On Media Engagement: To ensure transparency, Colonel Shafiqul announced that the army will now hold briefings every Thursday to update the media on relevant issues.
