Palestinian Group Agrees to U.S. Ceasefire Proposal

The Voice news:The Palestinian armed group Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire proposal offered by the United States to end the ongoing conflict with occupying Israel. This information was reported byo Reuters on Monday (May 26), citing a Hamas official.

According to the report, Hamas has accepted a Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, which could potentially pave the way to ending the war.

Under the new proposal, the ceasefire would last for 70 days, during which 10 hostages would be released. Hamas has reportedly agreed to the proposal through mediators.

A Hamas source told Reuters, “According to the proposed deal, Hamas will release 10 living hostages in two phases over the 70-day ceasefire period, while Israeli forces will partially withdraw from Gaza.”

At the same time, numerous Palestinians who have been imprisoned in Israeli jails for extended periods are expected to be released. As of this report, Israel has not issued any official response.

Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera reported that President Donald Trump will personally guarantee the ceasefire and oversee the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

According to the agreement, unconditional humanitarian aid will begin entering Gaza from the day the ceasefire starts.

The media outlet also mentioned that Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, has already sent a draft of the agreement to the Israeli government and is now waiting for their response.

However, Israeli news outlet The Times of Israel reported that the Netanyahu government has rejected the ceasefire deal as mentioned in Reuters’ report.

Speaking to U.S. news platform Axios, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff said, “Israel wants a temporary ceasefire under which half of the living and deceased hostages would be released, and further discussions would follow to explore a path to permanent ceasefire. I support this approach. At this moment, there is a ceasefire proposal on the table that Hamas should accept.”
