Dhaka, May 23, 2025 — Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has no intention of resigning, according to his Special Assistant for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Fayez Ahmad Tayyeb.
In a statement posted Friday on his official Facebook page, Fayez Ahmad Tayyeb stated, “Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus does not need power, but for Bangladesh and for a peaceful democratic transition, Dr. Yunus is essential.”
Rejecting recent speculation about Yunus stepping down, Tayyeb emphasized that the focus should be on strengthening the interim cabinet rather than leadership change. “The cabinet needs to become more dynamic. The government must become more functional, and advisors must take on greater responsibilities,” he wrote. “We must present visible progress to the people. There can be no disagreement on this.”
Tayyeb also highlighted Yunus’s international standing, noting, “It is our responsibility to uphold the global respect Dr. Muhammad Yunus commands. After a popular uprising and with public consent, Professor Yunus took charge—now we must show that he is delivering results.”
He further urged the interim government to intensify dialogue with political parties. “From now on, the government must engage more closely with political parties, meet regularly, and seek their opinions on various issues,” he added.
The statement comes amid political uncertainty and growing unrest in the country, as opposing narratives around Yunus’s leadership continue to emerge ahead of a critical meeting scheduled for Saturday.
