The Voice News: WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army announced Wednesday that it has no plans to officially recognize President Donald Trump’s birthday on June 14, even though the date coincides with the Army’s 250th anniversary celebrations and the president will play a prominent role in the event.
President Trump, who will turn 79 that day, is scheduled to attend the celebrations, which include Army paratroopers presenting him with a folded flag and a large military parade down Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C. The parade, which features M1A1 Abrams tanks and other military vehicles, was added to the program this year—prompting criticism from some Democratic lawmakers who claim the president is politicizing the military celebration.
“This has been the Army’s birthday… We’ve had 249 previous of these,” Army spokesperson Steve Warren said. “We’re excited that the commander-in-chief is interested in the Army’s 250th anniversary and that he will want to view it.” He emphasized that the event remains focused on the Army, not the president’s birthday.
The celebrations are expected to cost between $25 million and $45 million. Officials said precautions are being taken to protect Washington’s streets from tank damage, including the use of metal plates, and the Army will cover any necessary repairs
