India Imposes Ban on Entry of Bangladeshi Garments and Several Products via Land Ports

India has imposed a ban on the entry of Bangladeshi garments and several other products through its land ports. The Indian government announced on Saturday (May 17) that such goods from Bangladesh will now only be allowed through the Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports.

However, this restriction will not apply to goods exported from Bangladesh to Nepal and Bhutan via India.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a statement declaring that the ban on specific Bangladeshi goods entering India through land ports takes immediate effect.

As per the directive, no readymade garments from Bangladesh will be permitted entry through Indian land ports—only through the two designated seaports.

The order also restricts the import of certain items through customs points in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram, as well as West Bengal’s Changrabandha and Fulbari. The restricted items include fruits, fruit-flavored drinks, carbonated beverages, processed food, cotton waste, plastic products (except specified raw materials), and wooden furniture.
