The scheduled ceremony for Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Md. Riaz Hamidullah, to formally present his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu was postponed at the last moment.
According to a source at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, not only the Bangladeshi High Commissioner but also five other newly appointed ambassadors or high commissioners were due to present their credentials on May 15. However, the Indian side postponed the event without prior notice.
Riaz Hamidullah took charge as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India on April 7, replacing former High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman. In November of last year, the Government of Bangladesh sent an agrément request for his appointment, which was approved by India in February this year.
Before this role, Hamidullah served as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. He also held various diplomatic posts in New Delhi and at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. Additionally, he served as Director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu and worked in different departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including multilateral economic affairs, South and European affairs, and regional cooperation.
His current tenure is set to end in September 2029.
