India and Pakistan have exchanged two members of their respective security forces at the Wagah-Attari border on Wednesday (14 May), marking a rare moment of cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
According to Pakistan’s state broadcaster PTV News, Pakistani authorities received Mohammadullah, a member of the Pakistan Rangers, during the exchange.
On the other side, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Shaw was handed over to Indian officials by Pakistan. Shaw had reportedly crossed into Pakistan’s Kasur district “by mistake” in late April and had been in the custody of the Pakistan Rangers since April 23.
The Indian Army confirmed the development in an official statement.
According to The Indian Express, quoting BSF sources, the exchange process was carried out peacefully and in accordance with the established protocol.
