At a memorial event at the National Press Club for the late BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas alleged that suspicious foreign nationals are entering Bangladesh while many areas within the country are becoming inaccessible to its own citizens.
Abbas claimed that these foreigners are arriving with undisclosed “missions” that could threaten the country’s sovereignty, accusing the government of deliberately remaining silent on the matter. He further suggested that the government is serving external interests rather than the nation’s.
He criticized the current political situation, comparing it to a “circus” meant to distract from the government’s wrongdoings, and alleged that pro-Jamaat officials are replacing BNP-affiliated personnel within the administration.
Abbas expressed concern over restricted access to certain regions such as Saint Martin’s Island, Sajek, and Baghaichhari, questioning whether Bangladesh is under colonial-like control.
He also objected to any proposal involving a “humanitarian corridor” inside Bangladesh, asserting that such decisions require public consent and constitutional legitimacy.
In closing, Abbas stated that Bangladesh was not freed through war to be sold off and emphasized that all national decisions must come from a government elected by the people.
