BNP Standing Committee Member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy has urged the government to explain the prolonged absence of the party’s Acting Chairman, Tareq Rahman, from Bangladesh. Speaking at a program organized by the 12-Party Alliance at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon, Roy alleged that the government is creating obstacles that prevent Tareq Rahman from returning home.
“The BNP has consistently fought for democracy and voting rights,” he said. “People now demand elections following a mass uprising, yet the interim government has not presented a clear roadmap.”
Addressing Tareq Rahman’s situation, Roy stated, “We want him to return. He knows the reasons behind his absence, though he has not made them public. However, we believe certain barriers are preventing his return. A leader dedicated to uniting people and promoting collective governance would naturally come back if the path were clear.”
He emphasized that Tareq Rahman’s mission is not merely to attain power, but to work collaboratively for the nation’s progress. Roy reiterated the BNP’s demand for immediate steps to ensure free, fair, and participatory elections.
