Recent polling data has revealed a significant blow to President Donald Trump, as a majority of U.S. voters now support his impeachment for a historic third time. Conducted by Data for Progress between April 18 and April 21, the survey shows that 52% of likely voters favor Congress initiating impeachment proceedings against Trump, reflecting deep divisions within the nation.
The poll highlights bipartisan unease, with 84% of Democrats, 55% of Independents, and even 20% of Republicans backing impeachment efforts. These figures underscore growing concerns about Trump’s leadership just months into his return to the White House.
Support for impeachment is reportedly on par with levels seen during Trump’s previous impeachment proceedings, even before a full public case has been presented. Advocacy groups like Free Speech for People have seized the moment, launching campaigns to push for impeachment and collecting over 370,000 petition signatures nationwide.
Critics argue that Trump’s actions since his inauguration have strained the Constitution, citing alleged abuses of power, attacks on voting rights, and efforts to undermine government oversight. Alexandra Flores-Quilty, campaign director for Free Speech for People, stated, “Americans across the country refuse to let Trump and his allies destroy our democracy”.
As the debate intensifies, the polling results signal a pivotal moment for Congress to act decisively in addressing public concerns and upholding constitutional principles.
