Death Toll in Gaza Surpasses 50,900

Over 50,900 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip. According to a United Nations analysis, at least 36 Israeli attacks between March 18 and April 9 specifically targeted and killed Palestinian women and children. This information was reported by Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan strongly condemned the killing of civilians in Gaza, stating, “If this is not barbarism, then I ask you—what is it?”

At least 20 people were killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since early Friday morning. According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health, 1,542 people have been killed since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18.

A statement reported that at least 50,912 Palestinians have been killed and another 115,981 injured due to Israeli bombings in Gaza. However, Gaza’s official media office claims the total death toll has now reached 61,700. Many of those trapped under the rubble are also feared dead.

On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched a surprise attack by crossing the Israeli border. In retaliation, Israel began an all-out assault on Gaza. Since then, the Israeli military has been carrying out relentless destruction in the territory.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has expressed concern over the potential for increased illness and death due to Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza. He noted that more than 10,000 people urgently need to be evacuated for medical treatment abroad.

Violating the ceasefire, Israel has launched large-scale aerial and ground operations in Gaza since March 18. Moreover, the occupying force continues to expand its control. As of now, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have seized about 50% of the Gaza Strip, rendering many Palestinians virtually homeless in their own land.
