Sheikh Hasina Urges Support for the Underprivileged During Ramadan

Ex Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has called on party leaders, activists, and wealthy individuals to distribute Sehri, Iftar, and essential food supplies to underprivileged communities during the holy month of Ramadan. The appeal comes amid growing challenges under what she described as the “illegal and fascist” regime of the Yunus government.

The Ex Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the worsening law and order situation and the skyrocketing prices of essential goods, which have placed immense pressure on everyday citizens. She criticized the government’s decisions to halt critical social safety net programs, including the cancellation of TCB Family Cards for 4.3 million families, the suspension of rice sales through TCB, and the closure of the Special OMS Program. These moves, she noted, have intensified the struggles of low-income families.

Sheikh Hasina accused the Yunus-led administration of unlawfully seizing power and establishing a reign of fear and repression. She alleged that this regime has targeted Awami League members, opposition leaders, and pro-liberation individuals, creating a climate of intimidation. Despite these adversities, she reiterated the Awami League’s unwavering commitment to democratic values and its persistent fight to safeguard the rights of the people.

In keeping with its tradition of standing by the people during crises, the Awami League has already initiated the distribution of food, Sehri, and Iftar items to those in need. The Prime Minister urged affluent citizens to contribute to this humanitarian effort, embracing the spirit of Ramadan, which encourages self-sacrifice, generosity, and empathy.

“Helping those in need during times of difficulty is a hallmark of the Awami League’s legacy,” Sheikh Hasina stated, calling for collective action to support the underprivileged throughout this sacred month.
