Delivered extempore on March 7, 1971, at the historic Racecourse Ground (now Suhrawardy Udyan), the 19-minute address inspired the people of East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh) to prepare for independence. Bangabandhu’s profound words, including the legendary declaration, “The struggle this time is the struggle for our emancipation! The struggle this time is the struggle for our independence!”, galvanized a nation on the brink of liberation.

By including the speech in its registry, UNESCO ensures its preservation as a globally significant document of heritage. This recognition underlines the universal impact of the speech, which remains a source of inspiration for millions and a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s identity.

The March 7th Speech continues to resonate in the hearts of Bangladeshis, symbolizing the sacrifices and courage that paved the way for the nation’s independence in 1971. The UNESCO honor affirms its place as a cherished legacy not only for Bangladesh but for the world.
