Washington, June 8, 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Israel and Iran to immediately halt their ongoing attacks, as renewed hostilities between the two regional rivals threaten to further destabilize the Middle East.
In a brief post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday, Trump urged both countries to stop the “shooting” without delay. His remarks came as Israel and Iran exchanged fresh strikes following months of heightened tensions.
U.S. Offers Assistance in Destroying Iran’s Enriched Uranium
Speaking in an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press, Trump said the United States would assist Iran in removing and destroying its highly enriched uranium if a diplomatic agreement could be reached between Washington and Tehran.
“If we make a deal and become friendly, we’ll go in together with our equipment, remove the material, and destroy it—whether on-site or elsewhere,” Trump said.
He emphasized that cooperation would be possible under a negotiated settlement, but warned that Washington would pursue a much tougher approach if talks failed.
Warning of Military Action if No Agreement is Reached
Trump stated that if negotiations collapse, the United States would take decisive military measures to weaken Iran’s military capabilities before securing the uranium stockpile.
“We’ll go with them or without them, but nobody will be shooting at us,” he said. “If we can’t reach an agreement, we will hit them very hard militarily. We will wait until our security is fully guaranteed before taking action.”
Fresh Violence Threatens Fragile Ceasefire
A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran, brokered by the United States in April, had largely held until Sunday night, when Iran launched missile attacks targeting Israeli territory.
According to reports, the strikes were carried out in retaliation for Israeli military operations in Lebanon. Israel responded with counterattacks, triggering a new cycle of violence between the longtime adversaries.
The renewed exchange of attacks has raised concerns of a broader regional conflict and increased tensions across the Middle East.
