Trump Announces Investigation Into Ilhan Omar’s Wealth

Date:

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the launch of an investigation into the personal wealth of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, alleging that her financial growth warrants scrutiny by federal authorities.
Trump made the announcement at a time when his administration is facing heavy criticism over the fatal shooting of a protester, Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 37-year-old nurse was killed during protests that erupted after federal immigration officers carried out enforcement operations in the city.
In a post on social media, Trump said he was dispatching border enforcement chief Tom Homan to Minnesota to oversee the situation. “Tom is tough, but fair. He will report directly to me,” Trump wrote. He also claimed that a major investigation is underway into more than $20 billion in alleged welfare fraud in Minnesota, which he said was partly responsible for the ongoing violent and organized protests.
Trump further stated that both the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Congress are examining the financial affairs of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. He alleged that Omar arrived in the United States from Somalia with nothing and now has a net worth exceeding $44 million. “Time will tell,” he wrote.
According to Trump, Omar’s wealth has risen to millions of dollars in recent years, partly due to the assets of her current husband. He added that he had previously urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to open investigations into his political opponents, including Omar.
Last week, Trump publicly called for financial and political investigations into Omar, saying such probes should begin immediately.
Ilhan Omar, a Somali-American lawmaker representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, is a frequent critic of Trump’s policies and rhetoric. She has strongly condemned his past remarks about immigrants and the Somali community.
Trump has often targeted Omar using language that critics describe as Islamophobic. Just last month, he referred to the Somali community as “garbage,” drawing widespread backlash.
Omar has repeatedly denounced Trump’s statements as racist and divisive, particularly his comments targeting Muslim and immigrant communities.
