Cricketers Threaten Boycott of BPL and All Cricket

Bangladeshi cricketers have issued an ultimatum demanding the resignation of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M Nazmul Islam, warning that they will boycott the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and all forms of cricket if he fails to step down by Thursday afternoon.
The ultimatum was announced by the Bangladesh Cricketers’ Welfare Association (COAB) following what players described as “unacceptable and hurtful” remarks made by Nazmul Islam in recent days.
Speaking at a virtual press conference on Wednesday night, COAB President Mohammad Mithun said the language used by the BCB director was deeply offensive to the entire cricketing community.
“Everyone is aware of what has been happening over the last few days. First it was directed at one individual, and now comments are being made about all cricketers using words that are completely unacceptable,” Mithun said. “We do not expect such language from a board director. His remarks have hurt the whole cricket fraternity.”
Mithun added that board officials should exercise greater responsibility and restraint in their public statements, stressing that Nazmul Islam’s comments crossed a line.
“If he does not resign before the BPL match tomorrow, we will boycott all forms of cricket,” Mithun warned.
The controversy has sparked widespread debate within Bangladesh cricket, with players expressing growing frustration over what they see as disrespectful treatment from officials. The BCB has yet to issue an official response to the ultimatum, though it earlier expressed regret over the remarks that triggered the backlash.
