Sheikh Hasina Issues Statement Thanking Citizens for Successful Lockdown

Date:

Awami League President and Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for making the party-declared lockdown programme successful and effective. Sheikh Hasina thanked the whole Nation in a statement issued on Thursday night (13 November).

She said that political activists, students, youth, teachers, cultural workers, artists, journalists, lawyers, engineers, farmers, labourers, rickshaw pullers, day labourers — people from all walks of life — spontaneously supported the Awami League’s lockdown programme. Their unwavering support made the programme a success.

Sheikh Hasina further stated that the spontaneous participation of the people turned every household in Bangladesh into a fortress of the oppressed. In an attempt to break this resistance, members of the law enforcement agencies — acting on the orders of what she described as the “killer-fascist Yunus clique” — carried out house-to-house searches like an invading force, set up checkpoints at intersections, and conducted body searches along with inspecting citizens’ mobile phones. Such actions, she noted, amount to human rights violations.

She said the anti-people, undemocratic government views the entire country and its citizens as enemies. According to her, the regime has arrested elderly men from their prayer mats, middle-aged women, school-going teenagers, and even homeless youth — sparing no one out of fear.

With firm resolve, she added that no oppression or torture against the people will be tolerated. The more repression is inflicted, the stronger the resistance will grow, eventually shattering all the seemingly impenetrable walls of what she called the tyrannical fascist rule of Yunus.

The Awami League has also announced nationwide demonstrations, protests, and resistance programmes on 14 and 15 November demanding the restoration of democracy, an end to farcical trials, and a stop to all forms of state repression and terrorism, including the resignation of “killer-fascist Yunus.”

Additionally, the party declared that it will enforce a complete nationwide shutdown on 16 and 17 November.
