NEW DELHI, Nov 4 — Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused interim leader and Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus of playing a key role in what she called a “US-backed regime change” that led to her government’s downfall in August.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Hasina alleged that Yunus had “collaborated with imposters and terror apologists” to incite student protests and civil unrest that ultimately forced her from power.
“Yunus and his foreign patrons engineered this so-called reform movement to destroy Bangladesh’s democracy,” Hasina said. “But the people know the truth — I will return to deliver justice to my nation.”
Hasina, who fled Dhaka amid widespread protests and military pressure, has remained in India since the Yunus-led interim administration took control. Her latest remarks mark one of her strongest attacks yet on Yunus, whom she has long accused of harboring political ambitions and Western backing.
The interim government has denied the accusations, insisting its mandate is to stabilize the country and hold free elections by February 2026. Political analysts, however, say Hasina’s renewed rhetoric suggests she is preparing for a political comeback from exile.
