Awami League Supporters Rally Nationwide, Urge Yunus to Step Down

Date:

In Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh , Awami League leaders and activists staged protest marches demanding the resignation of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government. The program was held on Friday (12 September) around 2:30 PM.

Activists from Dhaka’s parliamentary constituencies 15 and 18 took to the streets after Friday prayers. Awami League leaders and workers also participated in the march in the Banglamotor area.

Participants in the marches were chanting slogans such as: “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu,” “You won’t be able to keep your demands,” “Sheikh Hasina will come, the streets will shake,” “Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile,” and “Remove Yunus, save the country.”

A central leader of the Awami Volunteer League at the march said, “This illegal government is not letting anyone live in peace. It is harassing leaders and activists across the country, including our leader Sheikh Hasina, by filing false cases. We have staged this march in protest.”

Following the Banglamotor march, police arrested six people along with a motorcycle. Masud Alam, Deputy Police Commissioner of Ramna Division, confirmed this information.

An employee of Borak Tower on Old Elephant Road said, “Suddenly I saw around a thousand people chanting ‘Joy Bangla, Sheikh Hasina’ slogans, marching from Banglamotor towards Borak Tower.”

Additionally, in Comilla, local Awami League and affiliated organization activists staged protest marches early in the morning. Such programs by the Awami League continue across Dhaka and throughout the country, with both the number of marches and participants increasing day by day.
