The newly elected government of in the Indian state of has come under political pressure after withdrawing a government tender only hours after it was issued, sparking allegations of favoritism and
irregularities in the bidding process.
The controversy centers around a tender issued on May 19 by the state’s Rural Development Department for the construction of a 30,000-liter overhead water tank in district. The contract, valued at 1.683 million Indian rupees, was published at 9:00 am, with the submission deadline set for 3:00 pm the same day — giving bidders only six hours to participate. Tender documents were scheduled to be opened at 4:00 pm.

The main opposition party, (DMK), accused the government of designing the process to benefit a specific contractor.
DMK state deputy secretary questioned how any company could realistically prepare a detailed project report and complete all formalities within such a short period. In a social media post, he alleged that the process reflected “pre-planned contract politics” rather than administrative efficiency, indirectly targeting minister .
Opposition leaders also questioned why the newly formed government acted with such urgency immediately after assuming office. They claimed the tender conditions appeared tailored to favor a single company and called for the entire process to be made public.
The DMK further alleged violations of the and demanded an official investigation, arguing that the issue went beyond mere suspicion and pointed to direct administrative misconduct.
Following mounting criticism online, the TVK government canceled the tender later the same day, citing “administrative reasons.” However, the withdrawal has failed to calm the political controversy.
The incident is being viewed as the first major political challenge for the new administration led by , widely known as Vijay, whose government now faces growing scrutiny over transparency and governance standards in public contracts.
